Sneakerheads remember the Air Jordan 6 as the shoe Michael Jordan wore when he got his first ring back in 1991.
MJ was already an all-star and a Slam Dunk Contest champion at that point, but with the validation of a championship, Michael Jordan became the superstar, and the brand, we still remember.
After 1991, everyone wanted to be like Mike in the summer of ’91, thanks to the debut of that phrase and song in Gatorade’s first-ever commercial featuring His Airness.
Now, the ‘Like Mike’ campaign is getting its own Air Jordan 6 iteration, dubbed the Air Jordan 6 Gatorade. One version of these basketball sneakers is done up in a color-blocked white and orange combo, but the more coveted version is the green suede pair you see here.
The white and orange Air Jordan 6 will retail for $190 and drop this weekend on Nike’s SNKRS app, alongside a Gatorade-inspired Air Jordan 32.
Additionally, four pairs of Air Jordan 1s, each inspired by a different flavor of the thirst-quencher, and featuring Gatorade’s lightning bolt logo on the heel, will drop in all four colorways exclusively at Foot Locker on December 26.
But what makes the green suede version the most coveted is the fact that they use premium materials. But mostly, we love them because of their completely un-Jordan-like color-scheme.
We all remember MJ soaring through the air in red and black hues. But a green and orange pair of Air Jordans is, ironically enough, un-like Mike. And in the attention-grabby world of sneakers, what’s more of a head-turner than some retro Js in green suede?
