Good news for non-English speakers, the Ministry of the Economy has announced that all printed receipts in the UAE will soon be required by law to be in both English and Arabic.

The changes, which are due to occur by 2018, are designed to help those who may currently find it difficult to understand receipts given to them by local retailers, many of which are only in English.

You may have noticed that some receipts already come in both languages, this is because the initiative for dual-language receipts was launched back in 2013, however according to Arabic daily Al Ittihad, shops who have yet to adopt dual-language receipts will have until the end of the year to do so before it becomes mandatory.

Currently, 80 per cent of establishments have already adopted the change.
