2017 is the year that broke the old codes of menswear including what you can get away with at a holiday party. So if you want to wear sneakers to your best pal’s blowout, office party or out New Years Eve, know that you can and maybe even should if they’re the right sneakers.
This year, the right kicks are JW Anderson’s brand new spin on the 1970’s edition of the Converse Chuck Taylor. You’d be hard pressed to find a more festive sneaker. Not only do they come color blocked in saturated colors, but they’re executed in an unprecedented glitter fabrication that’s guaranteed to set out any outfit you wear them with.
While these sneakers have been out in the open since they debuted at Anderson’s Spring-Summer 2018 runway show back in June, they’re finally dropping in stores and online this month.
For those unfamiliar with Anderson, the British designer’s sensibilities are as eccentric as they are luxurious. In addition to his own envelope-pushing label, Anderson is also the creative director of storied Spanish luxury label Loewe, a brand he’s produced must-have handbags and accessories for.
These glitter-adorned high-tops come in two distinct colorways: a green/grey/black scheme and a red/pink/blue design that are one there’s no place like home from being a full-on Wizard of Oz revival.
The obvious disadvantage of glitter kicks is that Converse’s trademark durability essentially goes out the window. However, with the right holiday 2017 outfit, say a velvet blazer and trousers, these sneakers will kick your style into high gear.
