Black Widow

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige hasn’t left himself a fat lot of wiggle room with his latest answer to the question of a possible Black Widow movie.

Since she debuted the character on screen in Iron Man 2, questions have been asked about whether Scarlett Johansson will get to headline her own Marvel feature. And the answer now seems to be yes, just not yet.

Chatting to Deadline (who asked whether there were standalone films on the horizon for Black Widow, Hawkeye, Falcon or War Machine), Kevin Feige said that “we’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then”.

“Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”

It’s not definite language, certainly, but it’s also a lot more than a vague commitment. We will, of course, keep you posted. But it does seem as though that Black Widow movie is finally going to happen…
