Chef Greg Malouf’s Zahira has closed its doors, less than a year after opening. The restaurant, which opened in The H Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road in May 2017, has officially shut, and a new concept is set to open in its place.

“We can confirm that we have officially closed Zahira Restaurant and Lounge to the public for the foreseeable future,” said a spokesman from The H Dubai.

“Since our partnership with Zahira’s chef Greg Malouf ended at the end of 2017, we have decided to revisit the concept and explore further options for the venue’s unique location and space.”

Aiming to showcase an artistic journey through the Levant, the restaurant from Australian-Lebanese Michelin-starred chef Malouf boasted dishes that were inventive and interesting, such as smoky moutabal with cheesy naan bread, hazelnut falafel and salmon kibbeh nayyeh.

The H Dubai is a hotspot for dining, also housing a range of restaurants including PLAY Restaurant & Lounge, The Black Lion, Okku and 40 Kong. And the hotel has recently rebranded two of its outlets, Delphine Bar is now H Bar, while Delphine Restaurant is now Eat & Meat. They remain the same in terms of décor and menu.

Zahira is not the only restaurant to have closed within a short period of time – in October Morah at the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai shut less than a year after opening.

The Mediterranean and Middle Eastern fusion restaurant, set on the 72nd floor of the world’s tallest hotel, opened in December 2016. The space is set to undergo an exciting reinvention and we look forward to hearing what will be in its place.
